1. Snack Right

We’ve all heard the saying, “you are what you eat,” but what you put into your body is so important to keeping you healthy.  Curb your cravings for hyper processed junk foods and sugar filled treats with healthy alternatives.  The benefits of raw, natural and unprocessed foods are endless. Also, it is proven that if you eat smaller meals more frequently, you are less likely to overindulge or over eat.  Eating small frequent snacks keeps your metabolism high and helps normalize your blood sugar levels. Try foods that are packed with nutrients, fiber and protein like fruits, vegetables, nuts, low-fat dairy products, whole grains and other vegetables to satisfy your hunger. I’m practicing smart snacking this fall, are you?

My pick: I don’t always have time to pack snacks before I run off to work but the Genuine Health fermented vegan protein+ bar and Thirsty Buddha Coconut Water with Aloe Vera is a easy choice to get the boost of energy I need and to stay hydrated throughout the day!

It takes three weeks to build or break a habit. This fall, commit to your new fitness routine for at least 21 days. You will be amazed to see how after that time it will become integrated into your weekly schedule.  What’s the key to fitness success? Find something that YOU like. Think about which form of activity you like to do, or try something new and stick to it. There are so many fitness options to choose from too. If the traditional gym is not for you, try a spinning, yoga, zumba or pilates class near you. At the end of the day, going to the class is up to you, so you might as well enjoy it!

My pick: I love both spinning and yoga. A few years ago I came across the gym Spynga by my house in Toronto and I’ve been addicted ever since. Their signature class mixes 25 minutes of high intensity cardio in spinning followed by another 25 minutes to strengthen, stretch and cool down with yoga. It is the perfect combination because it balances maximum cardiovascular conditioning by increasing your heart rate with spinning followed by a cool down through yoga that is not only relaxing but prevents injury.

3. Monitor Your Progress

The best way to keep motivated is to see how far you’ve come.  Some of the world’s most elite athletes who keep training logs stick to their workout regime and monitor their development and growth so you should too! Keeping an accurate record of your fitness plan is a great way to see your progress and transformation over the next few weeks.

My pick: I keep track of my fitness activities right on my phone with the Runtastic Orbit. It allows me to track my daily movements, fitness activities, sleep cycles and even my mood with the Happy Tracking function. Being able to get enough sleep is an important part of maintaining a healthy lifestyle. The Runtastic Orbit also tracks my sleep cycles by monitoring the duration and my movement during rest. I am able to record the detailed statistics of my daily steps, active minutes, calories burned as well as set goals with the touch of a button! With the option to either clip the device on my belt or bra as well as wear it on my wrist, everything I need to know is at my fingertips through the app connected to this sleek wearable device.
