An Insider Look At The Best Parties During TIFF

After two very busy weeks of events during the Toronto International Film Festival, here is an insider round-up of some of the best events during the festival this year.

9th Annual Canadian Filmmakers’ Party

The Spoke Club, in the heart of downtown Toronto, is the home to some of the hottest parties this year at the Toronto International Film Festival.  On September 3rd, TIFF kicked off in style with the 9th Annual Canadian Filmmakers’ Party featuring the best Canadian talent hosted by Tatiana Maslany, Tanya Kim, and David Alpay.  In partnership with with eTalk and the Academy of Canadian Film and Television, guests enjoyed a dazzling spread of cocktails.

Nikki Beach Pop-Up 

The Spoke Club has outdone themselves again by transforming the upper level and rooftop bar of their private club into an exclusive Toronto International Film Festival pop-up. From September 4th-7th members and their guests enjoyed the luxury of a Miami oasis in the heart of Toronto with Nikki Beach’s signature all-white décor. Some of the most fashionable crowds at TIFF attended to enjoy the delicious cuisine, flowing champagne, and world-renowned DJs.

The Grolsch Open House

The Grolsch Open House was created to celebrate the world’s largest public film festival to provide the community with a rich, creative TIFF experience. During the first weekend of TIFF the  Grolsch Open House was a public festival lounge where everyone was welcome, featuring live art and entertainment, delectable eats and cold Grolsch.  The Grolsch Open House was situated beside the Steve & Rashmi Gupta Family Stage offering a perfect view of performances from Brendan Canning and Justin Peroff from Broken Social Scene.

20th Anniversary Mongrel Media Party

The 20th Anniversary Mongrel Media party was unparalleled by any event held during this year’s TIFF. Held at the innovated Evergreen Brickworks in the heart of the Don Valley on September 5th, The Mongrel Media party hosted a wide array of Canadian talent. With live music from Stars, Alvvays and Reuben and the Dark, guests were dancing the night away despite the heavy rain that night. Food and drinks were flowing with a Market Hall of pop-up food stalls from such notable Toronto restaurants as Valdez, Fancy Franks, Café Polonez, Cheesewerks, Hot Bunz, Brickwork’s very own Café Belong and many more! There were tons of activities for the guests to enjoy including a Karaoke Room, a glow-in-the-dark ping pong table room, vintage arcade games, a Satellite Spoke Club Lounge with furniture by 507 antiques and a massage area provided by Elmwood Spas for guests to relax in. The party also got creative with live performances from Canadian artists, Zïlon Lazer and Artchild during the event.

 Stacey McKenzie at Buonanotte

The Italian supper club kicked off their week-long event series of TIFF cast parties on September 6th with Canada’s Next Top Model judge, and reknown Canadian Fashion Model, Stacey McKenzie’s party at Buonanotte. The restaurant was filled with fabulous party goers and sparkler filled Veuve Clicquot bottles popping!

Canadian Film Centre’s Annual Barbeque Fundraiser

The Canadian Film Centre’s Annual Barbeque was held during the afternoon on Sunday, September 7th hosted by one of Canada’s most recognizable directors, Norman Jewison, and celebrated the brightest new stars in the Canadian film industry at their Winfield Estate. Through donations and the support of many generous sponsors, funds were raised for the CFC’s various programs in film, television, screen acting, music, and digital media. Food and drinks were flowing with delicious treats provided by Gourmet Burger Co., Holy Cannoli, 10tation Event Catering, Holts Café, The Mighty Cob, Lollicakes, Gelato Fresco and Pizzaville, as well as drinks courtesy of our sponsors Evian, Crystal Head Vodka, wine from Karlo Estates and beer from Mill St. Brewery. The Spoke Club also had a pop-up lounge with drinks provided by Patron Tequila. The afternoon peaked with special musical performances by Robyn Dell’Unto and Adaline, 2013 Slaight Music Residents, courtesy of The Slaight Family Foundation, and Alexa Goldie, courtesy of PS Records/Popmania.

Whiplash Premiere Party

Set on the breathtaking rooftop on the Thompson Toronto, on September 8th the star studded cast of the film Whiplash directed by Damien Chazelle and staring Miles Teller, J.K. Simmons and Melissa Benoist clinked glasses with their guests to celebrate the TIFF premiere of their movie. Guests included some of the biggest local and international names in film, fashion and entertainment including Jason ReitmanTom Bernard (President, Sony Pictures Classics), Michael Barker (President, Sony Pictures Classics), Josh Lawson (House of Lies), James van Riemsdyk, Jim Stern (US Director/Producer) and many more.  Signature drinks were provided by Disaronno creating unique takes on festival favourite cocktails as guests watched a live drum off overlooking the Toronto skyline judged by the leading actor Miles Teller and director Damien Chazelle.
