Confessions Of A Curly-Haired Girl

I have BIG hair, like really big hair. Like, expand where there is an ounce of humidity, the never-ending expansion of curls kind of big hair. Like Monica from friends big hair that cannot be tamed. But I wouldn’t trade it for the world. The trick though is to find the beauty products that work best for you. After years and years of every hairstyle and fashion faux pas, I have finally developed a hair care routine that works for me. The tricky part with curly hair though, is no two curls are exactly the same. My Dad was born in Barbados and my mom is of Irish and Polish…meaning the texture and tightness of my curls will be VASTLY different than someone with coarser or thicker hair. I have thin hair but tight ringlets that absorb moisture in a second. So with a lot (and I mean A LOT) of trial and error I have finally found something that works for me. So I thought I’d let you in on my beauty secrets!

The quest to find the perfect brush…

Detangling curls should qualify as an Olympic sport. There are times that my hair can get so matted I worry that I am going to wake up in the morning with dreads. Finding the Tangle Teazer saved my life though. With this compact brush I am able to detangle my hair in no time without all the tugging and pulling of a normal brush. I also noticed that there is drastically less hair that came out in the regular brush. Curly hair breaks easily so the Tangle Teezer is perfect because it gently brushes through your hair without all the tugging and pulling. For the best results, section your hair into small sections instead of attempt to brush the entire head at once.

Tangle TeazerThe myths of a good hair products…

The toughest part about having curly hair is that it never looks exactly the same twice. My curls can range from tight ringlets to big poufy waves depending on the way it dries (diffuser vs. naturally) and how I wear it. Figuring out the hair products that work best for me took a while but once I did, things changed dramatically! There’s nothing like a good oil to seal in your curls your hair so that it doesn’t absorb the moisture from the air instead. I first start off by using the The Body Shop Wild Argan Oil The Radiant Oil to help secure the moisture in my curls and keep it shining! I then use a dollop of Marc Anthony Strictly Curls Curl Envy Perfect Curl Cream which keeps the shape of my curls smooth and soft all day long.
