To get the little ones ready for Halloween, I had the nieces and nephews over to help make some decorations for in and around the house. While my intention was to have them carve their very own pumpkin, I gave it a second though as the three of them are under the age of 5, and the thought of having the accident prone middle child hold a knife was more frightening then the holiday itself. So instead, we spent the evening painting and decorating pumpkins for display.
This DIY craft is simple, all you need is a pumpkin, acrylic paint (I opted for the non-toxic, washable kind) and sturdy brushes that I found at my neighbourhood Walmart. As they get older, the designs on the pumpkins can get more intricate. But for a 2 and a 4 year old, sparkly blue and sparkly pink suited them just fine.
