I like to praise myself as a “foodie” in Toronto, however I was happy to learn that SIAL, the leading name in the agri-food industry, annual tradeshow focusing on innovations in the food and beverage industry is coming to Toronto. Granted, I do like to eat food and sometimes I am not always cognizant of how my food and beverages arrive to Canada, only where they came from initially. Yes I am a wine snob, and yes I really want to know if my Nutella is actually from Italy.
The SIAL Canada International Food & Beverage Tradehow will be held in Toronto from May 2nd – 4th, 2017 at the Enercare Centre and with be host to over 840 national and international exhibitors form over 50 countries. This year the European Union has been selected as a region of honour and the EU Pavilion will form the centrepiece of the show. European Commissioner for Agriculture and Rural Development, Mr. Phil Hogan and his 60 member delegation of European Food and Beverage companies will lead visitors through many activities in support of promoting EU products. I could not be happier! Seriously, most of my favourite foods, snacks, drinks, you name it comes from European Union countries. Anyone who knows me, knows when I find out you are going to an EU member country I have a few items I would love for you to bring back for me! But I will give you money of course!
Thankfully, trade relations between the EU and Canada have been getting stronger each year, and it is becoming increasingly easier to find specialty items as well as EU staples in Canadian pantries these days. The EU Pavilion will consist of companies hailing from most of the EU member states including but not limited to Austria, Italy, France, Germany, Ireland, Poland, Spain, Sweden, the UK, and many more. These companies will be showcasing a variety of food & beverage products from fruits and vegetables, to preserved and fresh meats, dairy products, and even wine and spirits.
