During the May long weekend, I had the chance to enjoy a sneak peak of this summer train service to explore the stunning Niagara wine region with my friend Kait. The train left from Union Station in Toronto and took us al the way to St. Catherines where a GO Bus shuttles transports you directly to the quaint area of Niagara-on-the-lake.
We first stopped at the incredible Inniskillin Niagara Estate. With over 35 years of creating exceptional wines, this vineyard has a full collection of world renowned, award winning premium VQA wines. This vineyard offers guests a full service tour and tasting boutique with an impressive selection of premium table. The progressive Icewines are always a crowd favourite. Created from grapes harvested at sub zero temperatures, the finished splurge on a bottle of their red berry Cabernet Franc Icewine, for your next special occasion. Inniskillian also boast a beautiful grounds lined with picnic tables beside their seasonal grill making this the perfect spot to stop by to enjoy some wine under the summer sun!
Next, we travelled over to the stunning Jackson-Triggs Winery. A name synonymous with quality, this Ontario wine has become a staple in both restaurants and homes all over the province. Dedicated to quality, value and tradition, this winery is a “must-see” on any journey through Niagara. Depending on the occasion, there is a wine from Jackson-Triggs to suit any celebration. From the warm rich flavours in a red merlot or Cabernet Franc to the dry whites of a Reisling or Pinot Grigio to finishing (or starting) off your evening with a sparkling Methode, it is easy to find the perfect wine to pair with any meal. Jackson-Triggs is also the home of a stunning open-air amphitheater, which will be hosting a series of Canadian singer songwriters all summer long! So grab a glass, pull up and chair and enjoy the tranquil beauty of this modern farmhouse winery.
