Get Kids Cooking

With school days just around the corner, it’s the perfect time for us to start thinking about healthy eating and lunches, not just for you but for your little ones too. Eating a balanced and nutritious diet is so important for their development and to help give them enough energy to tackle whatever the school day may bring! To help make healthy eating fun for your kids, Ben’s Beginners has developed a resource for parents and families to help get kids cooking! Each week, a challenge will be uploaded on their website to get your kids to use their imagination to make up a fun new dish with rice. They’ll suggest you three main ingredients but the rest is up to you! Did you know that kids are more likely to eat foods if they know where they are coming from? Take the mystery out of cooking and have THEM be part of the experience! With eight weeks left of this challenge, there is plenty of time to enter with your young one! We dropped by the kitchen and got a lesson from the winner of MasterChef Junior, Logan Guleff (Season 2) who showed us how to make a Black Bean Burrito Bowl! Packed with nutritious ingredients, we’d love for you to try at home. Black Bean Burrito Bowl This healthy burrito bowl is loaded with fresh ingredients and topped with a dollop of zesty lime yogurt. Prep Time: 15 minutes Start to Finish Time: 20 minutes Servings: 4 Directions 1. Cook rice according to package directions without butter. 2. Divide rice among 4 shallow bowls; top with beans, tomatoes, avocado, lettuce and cheese. 3. Stir together yogurt, lime juice, olive oil, lime zest, garlic, cumin, chili powder and salt. Add dollop to each rice bowl.
