Once in a while you find a hidden gem in the town you’ve grown up in. I may have discovered this place because a colleague opened it, but even if it wasn’t the case my feelings about the store wouldn’t of changed. My very favourite place to go in the past year has to be, L’essence du thé in Mont-Tremblant.
A little off the touristic track in Tremblant. If you stay in the resort you will not have the chance to experience this one of a kind tea house. If you head to Saint-Jovite rather than the Mont-Tremblant resort where it is more of a local scene. Down the main street, there is a little area called the Petit Hameau, where it is a cluster of cute stores where you can walk around or sit down at a restaurant. In that little area, you will stumble upon L’essence du thé.
As you walk through the door, you will feel instantly welcome. Marc-André Latour, the owner invited you in the experience the world of tea, the art of making it as well as the art of savouring it. It is truly a different experience talking to someone who is 100% passionate about what they are doing. Their mission is to offer quality teas, among the best in the world, and to position tea as a health food, which is at one glance really tasty and so good for you.
After the owners first trip to China in 2007, the dream manifested of creating a place to share this passion with the world. Today, the very store that has been open for over a year, offers you over 70 types of teas, such as White, Green, Oolongs, Black and many more, a large part of them being certified organic.
Personally, I tend to find big tea chains, which have become really trendy over the past couple years, a little to ” perfumy ” in taste. The teas and tisanes you will find at L’essence du thé are made by real tea masters and not over produced in a factory. This is truly a tea saloon with heart and soul.
