Runway Recap: Day 1 of World MasterCard Fashion Week F/W 2015

It’s that time of the year again. World MasterCard Fashion Week has landed in the bustling David Pecault Square welcoming the best and brightest in Canadian fashion design talent. With over 35 runway presentations over five jam packed days, World MasterCard Fashion Week is welcoming a wide array of Canadian fashion designers to Toronto this week.  Yesterday marked the first day of World MasterCard Fashion Week featuring Mikhael Kale, Mercedes-Benz Start Up Presents: Sid Neigum and the Canadian favouite Pink Tartan. Come behind the scenes with us as we explore the Fall/ Winter 2015 collections of the best fashion designers from all across Canada.

Mikhael Kale

Renown for his conceptual approach to fashion and tailoring, Mikhale Kale has fused his retro influences from the 50’s, 60’s and 70’s into a stand out collection of hand crafted designs. Using techniques such as hand sewing, pleating and beading, along with the combination of his unique pattern making, Mikhale Kale has created a collection that resonates “a sound of the furture” with his design inspiration evolving over the ages.

Mercedes-Benz Start Up Presents Sid Neigum

Last year, the young and extremely talented Alberta native Sid Neigum was named the Awarded Designer after showcasing is Spring 2015 collection. With its’ intricate design based on one-of-a-kind and three dimensional pieces created from intricate techniques such as laser cutting and metallic fabrics into in an monochromatic collection, his new collections revisited this concept in an innovative way pushing the boundaries between fashion and art.

Pink Tartan

Pink Tartan has become an iconic Canadian label that is synonymous with classic style and sophistication. This season, Kimberley Newport-Mimran gave her traditional aesthetic a modern and avant-garde edge creating chic and delicate sportswear out of  luxury wools, high twist cotton and technical fabrics that hold the shape and detail of the underlying Eastern influence that she was drawn to. Integrating art and design into her collection, Pink Tartan collaborated with Mason Design to create an ethereal atmosphere where the models walked down the runway styled by George Antonopoulous in a figure eight to the music of DJ lil’Jaz/eljay!.
