Runway Recap: Day 3 of World MasterCard Fashion Week F/W 2015

Last night marked the midway point of World MasterCard Fashion Week and it was a night that highlighted Canadian contemporary fashion designers. With runway presentations from Atelier Wonder, Triarchy, Marolie Urbanovitch, Klaxon Howl, Hayley Elsaesser and Mackage audience members were thrilled for Fall/Winter 2015 collections. Check out our behind the scenes look at some of the best highlights from last night.

This independent label run by Montreal-based Polish-born fashion designer Paulina Wonders is known for its eclectic and satirical styles. Each piece from Atelier Wonder promotes a sense of individuality and evokes a certain youthful culture with a handmade feel. This season’s collection is said to have been inspired by science fiction, cyber-punk, fantasy and robotics which was evident in last nights show. Wonder’s drew her initial inspiration from the sci-fi cult classic Blade Runner. This collection encompasses hand embroidered items, metallic and luminescent materials, and digital prints that really evoke cult classic vibes.

Known for re-designing denim culture Triarchy is made up of a team of two brothers and one sister known for their different backgrounds that have helped them develop pieces that encompass both form and functionality. Their collection showcases the company’s attention to craftsmanship not only with just denim but equestrian and custom build motorcycles as well. This unique lifestyle brand has not strayed from their brand aesthetics this season, last nights show held true to their brand representation of beautifully crafted denim separates for both men and women.

Contemporary designer Malorie Urbanovitch was the 2013/2014 Mercedes-Benz Start Up awarded designer and she has not disappointed us this season. Known for her use of luxurious natural fabrics with timeless silhouettes and consistency with quality made ready-to-wear items; this season’s influence can be attributed to Marrakesh, Morocco  from her recent trip to the city in November 2014. Her fall/winter 2015 collection features transitional pieces that can be easily added to any existing wardrobe because of their versatility.

Toronto-based owner and designer Matt Robinson has stayed true to his brand and continued to explore his designs that are inspired by his own personal collection of vintage militia, workwear and sportswear of the early to mid-20th century. This locally handcrafted and curated collection utilizes quality materials woven on looms from Scotland and Japan. Robinson has been able to expand his label to a lifestyle brand incorporating cultural projects and stimulating a following . His F/W 2015 collection featured many ready to wear separates and suiting options for both men and women.

Established in Australia, Hayley Elsaesser has created a contemporary fashion label designed known for its strong cult like following that is vibrant with personality. True to her signature style this collection features bold and colourful prints that evoke a nostalgic feel fashioned in a variety of silhouettes for various body types. Her fall/winter 2015 collection entitled “Midnight Cowboy” was inspired by the idea of disco meeting the Wild West which was evident in the structure of the garments and the amazing mix of music that accompanied the models down the catwalk.

Born out of day dreams and doodles long-time childhood friends Eran Elfassy and Elisa Dahan made their dreams come true by re-designing and re-invigorating the outwear market through their brand Mackage. This team has propelled into success because of their collections that utilize luxury fabrics and a variety of silhouettes that compliment many different figures thanks to tailoring, details and impeccable designs. Last nights show featured beautifully curated designs of outerwear and accessories with tailored and stylized aspects inspired by the arctic landscape featuring a cool colour palate.
