Last night was the midway point of World MasterCard Fashion Week‘s celebration of Canadian Collections. This jam-packed evening entertained guests with the runway presentations of RUDYBOIS, Hilary MacMillian, Christopher Bates, Klaxon Howl, Rachel Sin, Mackage and Hayley Elsaesser. Check out our behind the scenes look at some of the best Canadian designers as they present their Spring/Summer 2015 collections.
Quebec’s fashion sensation Ruby Bois made his runway debut last night at World MasterCard Fashion Week with his collection entitled “Deprivation.” This innovative designer has developed an exceptional line of contemporary women’s wear carefully crafting pieces made from the finest textiles mixing a variety of materials including silks and chiffons. His soulfully inspired designs create a powerful yet distinctly feminine looks. The drama and romanticism of the collection is reflected through his bold colour palette of two distinct shades of red contrasted with the simplicity of black and white.
Hilary MacMillian’s self-titled line Spring/Summer 2015 collection features contemporary urban women’s wear. Inspired by the vibrant palette of the Canadian summer sunset, MacMillian is renown for her effortlessly chic figure flattering vintage silhouettes. Inspired by her mother’s paintings, the new collection features four exclusive hand-painted prints which include an abstract sunset with vivid oranges tones, and a cloud print originally painted on canvas which adds the illusion of texture to the fabric.
Christopher Bates has made a name for himself within the menswear fashion industry. Marking his tenth collection, Bates was inspired by the desert style in the film The English Patient, as his Spring/Summer 2015 line pairs resort wear with a distinct safari feel. His undeniable talent as a designer shines through as he has carefully crated a line of bespoke suiting pieces with exotic fabrics including soft lamb suede, camouflage ripstop cotton, and custom printed silk charmeuse. Showcasing his latest short film at the start of the runway, Christopher Bates’ runway show delighted guests with a multi-media experience.
Designed by Matt Robinson, Klaxon Howl his signature designs always includes impeccable tailoring of high quality garments. Inspired by vintage military uniforms and early twentieth century sportswear, Klaxon Howl’s Spring/Summer 2015 Collection is complete with wearing pieces for both men and women, Klaxon Howl put on an entertaining runway show as the models strolled down the catwalk in their retro attire accompanied by a drummer. The nostalgic flair of their collection was complete with relaxed causal pieces in muted, classic tones.
Returning to World MasterCard Fashion Week for her second year, Rachel Sin has combined both her Fall/Winter 2014 and her Spring/Summer 2015 collections in one amazing show. Offering viewers with ready available looks, her two collections provide guests with pieces that are both current and trending designed for the busy modern women. Naming her collection The Urban Jetsetter, Rachel has designed versatile and stylish collections made of high quality fabrics and unique prints that can easily transition from day to night. Her versatile collection was divided into two sub lines of Work and Play giving fashionista’s two distinct colour palettes to choose from and a variety of looks to fit the needs of the girl on the go.
Mackage, known for their crisp, clean lines amazed onlookers as they brightened up their colour palette this season to amp up their line of premium leatherwear jackets and bags. Inspired by the busy city life, co-directors Elisa Dahan and Eran Elfassy embodied the feeling of strength and excitement in their Spring/Summer 2015 collection. Their new line was filled with functional outerwear revamping traditional silhouettes with inventive cuts, hardware accents in vibrant shades of bright pink, electric yellow and cobalt blue to bring a burst of energy and vibrancy to your wardrobe.
The models from outer space invaded the catwalk of World MasterCard Fashion Week as contemporary designer Hayley Elsaesser concluded the third evening. Her collection, “Heavenly Bodies” showcased her bold collection of ultra-fun graphic separates and dresses in an upbeat show. Inspired by her love of colour, film, fashion and travel, Hayley’s Spring/Summer 2015 line is a vibrant collection of luxury street wear. Melding together a quirky style with a vibrant colour scheme of custom designed graphic prints, her playful and fun collection brings a fresh look on casual chic.
