Last night concluded World MasterCard Fashion Week in Toronto, with over 35 designers showcasing their Fall/Winter 2015 Collections and over 30,000 guests in attendance it was a whirlwind of a week full of couture, contemporary, and read-to-wear designs. The final day runway presentations included designers Tatsuaki, Jaan Choxi, The Wild North, 3. Paradis, Stephan Caras and Mikael D. Take a look behind the scenes with us as we attended some of Canada’s most notable designer’s runway collections.
Creative Dan Liu was inspired to create a collection entitled “Retro Aliens” which took a futuristic approach to the iconic trends of the 50’s and 60’s. Incorporating stylistic and colour elements of those eras, Liu’s exceptional use of crochet, knit, lace and embroidery are found throughout his Fall/Winter 2015 collection. This season also marked his outerwear launch in Canada as well.
Launching a line of luxury menswear this year, JAAN CHOXI is creatively redesigning the way we think about modern suiting. Using a colourful palate in various materials and prints, this collection transitions perfecting into the busy urban life of the modern man.
The Wild North
Just because we live in one of the coldest countries, doesn’t mean our outerwear can’t be made to brave the elements but be fashionable as well. With a full collection of winter ready pieces made of the finest materials such as wool, cashmere, quality down and sustainably sourced wild furs lending a luxurious yet simplistic aesthetic that is function for Northern life.
Established in 2012 by long-time friends Emeric Tchatchoua and Raymond Cheung, 3. Paradis has taken on the task of re-defining menswear with their trendsetting approach to the luxury ready-to-wear label. The duo has foregone the traditional ideas and have reinvented the typical notions of menswear by implementing no boundaries, no rules and even disregarding the usual conventions applied to menswear. Last night’s collection was no different, true to their brands identity the designers were able to present their latest collection “Placebo” that balances the ideas of elegance with touches of futurism.
Based out of Toronto, Stephan Caras presented his F/W 2015 Collection entitled “RUBI” that featured dramatic silhouettes emphasizing shape and silhouette with beautifully treated fabrics and intricate detailing. “RUBI” featured beautifully crafted garments that used black as a canvas as an anchor for vibrant reds that paired. As per the brand’s philosophy the inspiration behind his collection is easily understood by each piece exuding femininity and materializing the conceptualized versions of sensuality.
Alike last season World MasterCard Fashion Week was concluded with the beautiful and luxurious fashion house of MIKAEL D. Last night we were enchanted with his collection entitled “Mystical China” that exhibited not only creativity but stunningly constructed pieces. With inspiration from many sources the designer was able to master the fine art of structure, classicism and technical skill.
