The second Toronto Men’s Fashion Week (TOM*) touches down in Toronto at the end of February 2015. Featuring some of the best Canadian and international designers, TOM* celebrates the best in menswear fashion. This jam packed week will be filled with runway presentations from renowned designers and a-list after parties filled with stylish men. From Monday, February 23 to Tuesday, March 3, 2015, TOM* will showcase the best in menswear design from established to emerging Canadian and international designers.
In addition to this week’s runway presentations, Toronto Men’s Fashion Week (TOM*) will be hosting a series of TOM*TALKS devoted to spreading and sharing ideas covering men-focused topics held at TRUMP Residences (325 Bay Street) in the Penthouse suite. Tickets are available now at Eventbrite.
Presented by Fashion Group International, Session One takes place Tuesday, February 24 from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. The topic of discussion is MANarchy, focused on Men’s Trends. The moderator is Carly Stojsic, former market editor of WGSN.
Presented by Winmar, Session Two takes place Thursday, February 26 from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. The topic of discussion is the Celebrity Influence In Men’s Fashion. The moderator will be Roger Gingerich of The Gingerich Group.
We sat down with Executive Director and Founder, Jeff Rustia to learn more about this exciting event.
- What was your inspiration behind developing TOM*?
As an avid menswear and fashion enthusiast, and a proud Torontonian, and inspired by these passions, I set out a year ago to launch the city’s very own men-focused, men-devoted fashion week. And it couldn’t have come at a better time. There has been a huge cultural shift among men today. The modern millennial men are unashamed about looking good and loving fashion… because it’s intrinsically linked to dressing for success. Clearly, Toronto is a big source of inspiration for me. It is with great love and pride to be able to create a world ranking fashion week right here, that would boost the menswear industry, increase the city’s economic impact and boost tourism, and also put a much deserved spotlight into Toronto, and the incredible Canadian talent and creativity that we have here.
- What can our readers expect to see at TOM* this year?
TOM* has quickly become known as a festival of many “firsts”. Aside from being the first ever Toronto Men’s’ Fashion Week, it is also the first to launch a Canadian Menswear Fund, and the Emerging Menswear Designer Award. This season we continue to break the mold and push the boundaries, as we move into our very own venue, a historic landmark, the former Eaton’s Department store at 444 Yonge Street, and for launching the first TOM* Winter Fashion Festival outside College Park, which will be tailor made for men, from cigar bars, oysters stations, food trucks and a spectacular ice bar, as well, as special men’s fashion installations.
- What can we except to see from TOM* in the future?
The Dream for TOM* is that it paves the way for Toronto to become one of the global capitals for menswear, in setting the world trends in menswear, showcasing incredible talent and breaking records in the number of visitors to the city. It will attract a very strong attendance of international press and buyers, including the strongest attendance from American department stores. With those goals in mind, expect to see more emerging and established menswear designers nationally and internationally, world ranking shows, buyer events, showrooms and trunk shows – all aimed at helping the business of menswear.
